UPDATE

The San Jose Mercury News is reporting that “multiple former female athletes reached out to the San Jose Police Department’s Child Exploitation Detail.”

Earlier, The San Jose Mercury News reported that former Valley Christian High School coach Gregory Marshall incriminated himself during a police-monitored phone call with one of the victims. Marshall is facing more than two dozen felonies alleging that he sexually abused two underage students.

Marshall is accused of having sex with the two young girls from 2002 to 2005 while coaching at Valley Christian High School. It appears that he was investigated in 2006 but charges were not filed. Marshall was released from Valley Christian.

The San Jose Mercury News reports, “during his phone call to the student or in subsequent text messages, Marshall never denied the relationship or how it progressed from kissing and oral sex to sexual intercourse in his classroom, hotel rooms and other locations, some of which were public, police stated.”

Sexual predators often go to great lengths to earn the trust of their victims and isolate them from friends, family, and authority figures. This is predatory grooming behavior.

Prior to his arrest, Marshall worked as a track coach at Branham High School. While Campbell Union School High School District states that Marshall passed a criminal background check before he was hired, it is unclear if the District conducted an employment check by contacting Valley Christian High School.

Marshall Is also the owner and operator of Marshall Sports Performance and Fitness in San Jose. At a Track & Field Camp for junior high school athletes at the Branham High School Track, the promotional page states, “Coach Greg Marshall will conduct this camp using his over 20 years experience as a master coach in the sport. He has coached and trained at every level to include professional athletes and Olympians.

Greg Marshall reportedly ran track and played basketball at the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1980 to 1984. He was also a former assistant strength and conditioning coach for the San Francisco 49ers and strength coach at Santa Clara University, including the women’s softball team.

San Jose police fear that there may be more victims. If you or a loved one have been a victim of sexual abuse or exploitation by a person in authority, please contact our law firm for a free and confidential consultation.
